Summary: A view from 40 years on. Mr Ward will talk about the origins of the programme in the early sixties and considers the changes made to the aeroplane between its public debut prior to taxi runs on E-01 and entry into service with the RAF. It then describes some aspects of the development of the aircraft's handling, engine and the avionics system in those early years.
It also covers a few other interesting trials carried out in the UK.

Summary: Mr Shipman is coming over the RAeS to share his knowledge of the aerial battles during WWII over the UK, in which he has recently had a book published called "One of teh Few". This is a unique and an interesting book as it describes the Battle of Britainfrom a Spitfire pilots point of view. The book features the experiences of Ted Shipman (RAF) and Hans Kettling (Luftwaffe). The book features the activities of RAF 41 Squadron and many others. The book features some of the air battles over North Yorkshire, Catterick, Leeming, Teeside, Lincolnshire and Kent. Hampshire is also featured.
John will also be bringing a few copies of his book to the Branch in which members can purchase from John on the evening |
