Recent Conferences
The RAeS Space Group generally organises one conferences per year at the societies HQ. The three most recent are:
"Space Tourism: A New Industry in the Making"
Tuesday 30 June 2009 at RAeS HQ, 4 Hamilton Place, London.
It has been a long held dream of many to make flights into space available to the private citizen, and not just government agencies. To date the embryonic space tourism industry has enabled a handful of wealthy individuals to fly into space and within the next two years commercial sub-orbital flight operations should begin. This multi-disciplinary conference aims to bring together prominent players from across this new industry in a unique forum to discuss the state of the business today, the vision for the next decade and the challenges that must be overcome to make the dream a reality.
"Find the Right Stuff: The Medical Selection of Aircrew and Astronauts"
Tuesday 24 March 2009 at RAeS HQ, 4 Hamilton Place, London.
This Symposium will explore the medical standards used in the selection of military aircrew, civilian aircrew and astronauts. Training of aviators requires significant financial investment, and organisations look for re-assurance that a trainee will return a reasonable length of service, and will not fail training for medical reasons. Additionally, it will address some of the psychological aspects of aircrew selection including cognitive testing and the role of personality assessment.
