Recruitment
Agencies are yet another job search option. Commercial recruitment agencies are
not to be confused with internet
recruitment. There are a number of specialist
recruitment agencies dedicated to the engineering/aerospace community. However,
it is worth bearing in mind that most recruitment agencies are interested in people
who have already acquired relevant skills and experience.
Some useful advice:
- The Recruitment & Employment Confederation (REC) was formed in 2000 from a
merger between the Federation of Recruitment and Employment Services (FRES) and
the Institute of Employment Consultants (IEC).
- The Recruitment & Employment Confederation represent the recruitment industry.
It is a body that is made of both individual (recruitment consultants/managers)
and corporate members (recruitment consultancies/employment agencies)
- All REC members must adhere to a set code of practice, which aims to provide
you with a high standard service. Here are some best practice guidelines:
- Enquire if your recruitment consultant is a REC member. Always check out your
recruitment consultants policy on submitting your CV or details to prospective
employers.
- Remember you do have a choice in how your details or CV will be presented to
potential employers/clients.
- Always request a copy of the CV that the recruitment consultant is planning
to forward to clients. Check if it is standard procedure for you to be contacted
before your CV is put forward?
- Multiple submissions to employers do not multiply your chances of success. They
often only serve to confuse employers. To avoid multiple submissions by different
consultancies, a good rule of thumb is to only allow the consultancy that contacts
you first about a vacancy to act on your behalf.
- It is important that you maintain close contact with your recruitment consultant
to avoid missing out on opportunities.
- Jobseekers can request a list of REC corporate members in their specialist area
for a fee of £3.75
